About us

Pirkko Kekäläinen and Kirsti Peitsara are a daughter and mother co-operation residing in the Capital area of Finland. They have had dogs since 1985 and have been active in salukis since 1987. At the moment (April 2019) they share one salukis: the fabulous French beauty Aicha. They had the privilege of being mentored by the late Chrisse Schrey-Grandell in their early years in salukis. Later they've had close co-operation with both Pirjo Grönfors of the El Hamrah salukis and Helen and Michael Williams of the Kasaque salukis. They hope to breed their first litter, when the time is right for the beautifull Al Zubeyda Laila Aïcha.

Pirkko purchased her first saluki, after almost a year of waiting, in the spring of 1988. She was only 10 years old at the time. The puppy was a b/t dog El Hamrah Pegasos, who later became a champion handled by Pirkko. Pirkko has since handled not only her own, but many other people's salukis to champion titles and BIS wins. She has also had her salukis competing on the race track and lure coursing fields. She also has a feline member in her pack, but the Norwegian forest cat Sandur never got to liking the cat shows. In recent years Pirkko has had to cut down the dog activities due to her work (Pirkko is a petrographer and a partner at Koestus) and her diving activities.

Kirsti had dogs at home, when she was a child. After many years without a dog, she got a collie Nadisa Ring-Leader aka Timmie in 1985. Soon Kirsti noticed she was living with the collie and a saluki. When it started looking like there would soon be yet another saluki in the house, Kirsti insisted in becoming a co-owner. Thus her first saluki was a black and fawn dog called Sonny, who later became the top winning star Int Ch El Hamrah Sheherban. Ever since the salukis have been more or less co-owned between Pirkko and Kirsti. Kirsti is retired from her work in teaching and studying the English language.
